The United States and Iran will begin a new round of talks in Switzerland on Sunday. The main goal is to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding signed last week.
Both sides have a 60-day deadline to solve difficult issues. These include the future of Iran’s nuclear program and its stockpiles of uranium.
But the talks face growing uncertainty. Israel and Hezbollah—who are not part of the agreement—have continued fighting in Lebanon. Israel has refused to withdraw from the territory.
Iran now says the conflict in Lebanon will be the “main topic” of the talks. This shift threatens to delay progress on the nuclear deal.
