Ekiti election result to shape Nigeria’s electoral law changes
A senior Nigerian official says the outcome of the Ekiti State governorship election will help lawmakers decide how to improve the country’s electoral laws. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele made the statement after casting his vote in Iyin-Ekiti. He said the election, along with other by-elections across Nigeria, offers a chance to test the current electoral system. “The result will guide future amendments to the Electoral Act,” Bamidele said. He did not specify which changes might be considered. The election is being closely watched as a test of Nigeria’s electoral reforms.
