Indonesia Seeks International Aid After Sumatra Landslide and Flooding

Indonesian authorities have called for international assistance following a major disaster on the island of Sumatra. A severe landslide and flooding triggered by heavy rainfall has devastated the Pesisir Selatan district of West Sumatra province. The natural disaster has caused significant casualties and damage. At least 41 people have died, and 17 others remain missing. The severe weather has destroyed hundreds of homes, bridges, and mosques. West Sumatra's governor, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, has formally requested aid from other countries. He stated that the required equipment and expertise for large-scale search and rescue operations are currently beyond local capacity. The national disaster agency is leading relief efforts. Rescue teams are working to find survivors, clear debris, and provide emergency supplies to displaced residents.
