AI data centers get a government fast lane to the grid

📡 TechCrunch · 1 min read ·
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has ordered grid operators to create a fast lane for data centers seeking to connect to the power grid. The directive aims to speed up the interconnection process for facilities that power artificial intelligence (AI) systems. However, the order does not address a critical problem: the growing shortage of electricity supply. While data centers will now face fewer bureaucratic delays, the underlying issue of generating enough power to meet their massive demand remains unresolved.
