The Swiss Foreign Ministry has confirmed that planned talks between the United States and Iran, scheduled for Friday, have been cancelled. Reuters reported the news.
The cancellation came after the White House press secretary announced overnight that Vice President J.D. Vance would not attend the meeting.
Earlier this week, the two countries signed a letter of intent to end the war. US President Donald Trump signed the document on Wednesday at Versailles. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian signed it electronically.
The parties were set to meet in Switzerland today for a ceremonial signing and to discuss next steps.
“Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks,” the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
