The materials include dashcam video and cockpit audio from when off-duty pilot Joseph Emerson attempted to shut down a passenger jet's engines mid-flight. Emerson was riding in the cockpit jump seat of an Alaska Airlines flight. According to official reports, he tried to activate the engine fire suppression system. This system cuts off fuel to the engines, which would cause them to fail. The flight crew quickly subdued Emerson and prevented the engine shutdown. They diverted the plane safely to Portland, Oregon. Emerson has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to multiple charges of attempted murder. His trial is pending.
