Iran Warns of Military Response After 84 Ceasefire Violations in Lebanon in 48 Hours
Iran's armed forces warned Israel on Wednesday that continued attacks in southern Lebanon could trigger a "strong military response." Tehran reported 84 violations of the ceasefire in the last two days. The warning comes as Israel's offensive has killed 3,826 people and wounded 11,851 since March 2, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. UNICEF said nearly 250 children have died and about 1,000 have been hurt in the same period. Iran's main military command center, Khatam al Anbiya, said Israeli forces kept up operations in Lebanon despite a peace deal announced Sunday by US President Donald Trump. The deal between Washington and Tehran was meant to reduce tensions. At least four people died Tuesday in Israeli drone strikes on the towns of Mifdoun and Choukin in Nabatieh, Lebanon's National News Agency reported. The attacks hit three vehicles and sent civil defense teams to evacuate victims. Iran said Israeli actions contradict the ceasefire promises pushed by the US and Tehran. It repeated that stopping Israeli operations in Lebanon is a key goal of a memorandum of understanding both sides plan to sign Friday in Switzerland. Separately, several Iranian oil tankers crossed the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since the US imposed a blockade two months ago, tracking firm TankerTrackers reported Wednesday. The vessels DIONA and HERO2, both very large crude carriers, passed the blockade line. Another tanker, STREAM, is approaching from Pakistan's waters, where it waited seven weeks. The resumption of oil exports may be an early sign of easing tensions, but questions remain about how to fully lift shipping restrictions. Japanese shipping firm Mitsui OSK said Wednesday it will not cross the strait without confirmed safety guarantees, adding that restarting traffic requires close coordination with governments, insurers, and other parties.
