Leaked 14-Point US-Iran Peace Deal: Ceasefire, Nuclear Promise, and $300 Billion Plan
Several major news outlets, including CNN, Bloomberg, and Al Arabiya, have published leaked copies of a draft memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. The two countries are expected to sign the document in Switzerland on Friday, June 19. However, neither Washington nor Tehran has confirmed the official text, and officials warn the wording may still change. The draft outlines 14 clauses. It calls for an immediate and permanent end to the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon. Both sides agree to respect each other's sovereignty and to avoid interfering in each other's internal affairs. Key points include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days. The US will lift its naval blockade and remove its forces from surrounding areas within 30 days after a final deal is signed. Iran agrees to clear technical obstacles and mines to restore shipping traffic to pre-war levels. The US promises to create a plan for Iran's economic recovery, with at least $300 billion in funding. It also commits to ending all sanctions, including UN resolutions and US unilateral measures, under a schedule to be agreed in a final deal. Iran reiterates its long-standing promise never to build a nuclear weapon. The fate of its highly enriched uranium will be discussed in future talks. Until a final agreement is reached, both sides will keep the current status quo: Iran will not advance its nuclear program, and the US will not impose new sanctions or increase its forces in the region. The US will also grant waivers for Iran's oil and petrochemical exports immediately after signing, and will unfreeze all of Iran's blocked assets. The two sides will start 60 days of negotiations after signing, with the possibility of an extension. A final agreement will be approved by a binding UN Security Council resolution. Despite the draft, skepticism is high. Trump administration officials have disputed the leaked text. Steven Cheung, White House Communications Director, said on X that the CNN version does not reflect the real memorandum. A semi-official Iranian news agency, Tasnim, also called the leaked copies inaccurate, citing errors in key paragraphs. Vice President JD Vance said the full text will be published by Friday at the latest. He added that Washington wanted to release it sooner, but Qatari and Pakistani mediators asked for a delay. President Donald Trump himself cast doubt on the deal's durability. Speaking at the G7 summit in France, he said: "It is a memorandum of understanding. If I don't like it, we will go back to shooting them and dropping bombs right in the middle of their heads." Meanwhile, Iran's military has warned Israel that continued attacks in southern Lebanon could trigger a "strong military response," after accusing Israel of 84 violations of a separate ceasefire in the last 48 hours.
