Almost every child on the planet, including those in wealthy nations, now faces at least one climate hazard. But a new UNICEF report reveals a far more alarming reality: half of the world’s children are exposed to at least three overlapping climate threats at once.
These hazards—heatwaves, storms, floods, and droughts—are endangering children’s health, education, and survival. As the climate crisis worsens, more than one billion children now experience multiple extreme weather events simultaneously, according to the report.
