A new ultrasound method can identify a rare but serious risk from cosmetic fillers, potentially saving patients from severe injury. Experts warn that injectable fillers can sometimes block blood vessels, a complication that may lead to tissue death, blindness, or stroke.
This breakthrough allows doctors to see these vascular blockages immediately. Early detection enables precise, targeted treatment to restore blood flow and prevent lasting damage.
The technique involves high-frequency ultrasound waves that create detailed images beneath the skin. It visually confirms where filler material has entered and obstructed a blood vessel, a problem known as vascular occlusion.
"Time is critical when treating these complications," explained a lead researcher. "This technology gives us a clear map to act quickly and accurately, greatly improving outcomes." The method is now being adopted by specialized clinics to enhance patient safety during and after cosmetic procedures.
