Hong Kong’s privacy watchdog has opened a data privacy academy to help turn the city into a global hub for skilled professionals.
Privacy Commissioner Ada Chung Lai-ling announced the new academy on Tuesday at a summit marking the office’s 30th anniversary. She said the initiative aligns with the national strategy to develop Hong Kong as a high-caliber talent center.
“As an educator and reformer, I am delighted to announce the launch of…” Chung said. The academy will also support the city’s first five-year plan for data protection, which the watchdog aims to implement.
The move comes as Hong Kong seeks to strengthen its position in the fast-growing field of data privacy.
