Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier met on Monday to strengthen economic ties between their nations. The two leaders discussed expanding trade and increasing German investment in Indonesia, particularly in green energy and infrastructure projects.
During the bilateral meeting, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in sectors such as renewable energy, digital technology, and manufacturing. Germany is already one of Indonesia's top trading partners in Europe, and the new push aims to remove barriers for German companies seeking to invest in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
"This partnership will create jobs and drive sustainable growth," a joint statement said, emphasizing a shared commitment to fair trade and climate goals. The leaders also explored joint ventures in electric vehicle battery production, leveraging Indonesia's rich nickel reserves.
The meeting signals a renewed focus on economic diplomacy, with both countries eyeing post-pandemic recovery and long-term strategic collaboration. No specific investment targets were announced, but officials expect new deals to be finalized in the coming months.
