UK to ‘Choke Off’ Russia Cash, Give Ukraine Nuclear Energy Aid

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced new sanctions against Russia and hundreds of millions of pounds in energy support for Ukraine. He made the pledge at the G7 summit in France. Starmer told leaders of the Group of Seven nations: “We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.” The new sanctions target Russia’s finance networks and its so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers. Starmer said the goal is to “choke off” Russian revenue used to fund the war. The UK will also provide hundreds of millions of pounds to help Ukraine with nuclear energy. This support aims to strengthen Ukraine’s power grid. The G7 meeting began Monday in the French spa town of Évian-les-Bains, on the shore of Lake Geneva. Starmer attended after a difficult political week at home.
