A dispute is growing inside Turkey's main opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP). On Wednesday, a party official named Emir announced that nearly 900 signatures demanding an extraordinary party congress will be delivered to the party headquarters.
The crisis deepened when it emerged that former party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu did not submit a formal application for the meeting. Current leader Özgür Özel has reportedly decided not to submit one either. This means neither of the party's top figures is backing the call for a congress, creating a split within the CHP.
