Environment Minister Moh. Jumhur Hidayat launched a national bamboo planting movement on Sunday. The program aims to accelerate the restoration of degraded and critical land across the country.
Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that helps prevent soil erosion and improves water retention. The initiative encourages communities to plant bamboo in areas where the land has become unproductive or damaged.
Minister Hidayat stated that the movement is a practical, low-cost solution for environmental recovery. He called on local governments, farmers, and volunteers to participate actively.
The planting effort is expected to cover thousands of hectares over the coming months. Officials say bamboo forests can also provide economic benefits, as the plant is used for construction, furniture, and crafts.
