The United States and Iran have reached a peace agreement, with the Strait of Hormuz set to reopen on Friday under Iranian arrangements, according to state media. The US president confirmed the deal as Pakistan’s prime minister announced the official signing will take place in Geneva on 19 June.
The agreement aims to ease tensions in the region, reopening a vital waterway for global oil shipments. However, the deal faces strong opposition from Iranian hardliners, who are pushing to reject it.
Meanwhile, Israel said it has struck Beirut’s southern suburbs, with explosions heard in the city. The Israeli military claimed the attacks targeted Hezbollah positions in the Dahiyeh stronghold, in response to rocket fire into Israeli territory. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement confirming the operation.
