ISTANBUL — The co-chair of Turkey's Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Tuncer Bakırhan, made a strong statement at the "Republican Democratic Transformation Conference" on Wednesday.
Speaking to the news site bianet, Bakırhan argued that the democratization of the Turkish Republic is an urgent and non-negotiable issue.
"Democratization cannot be postponed," Bakırhan said. His comments come as Turkey debates political reforms and constitutional changes.
The conference, which brought together politicians and academics, focused on the future of democratic institutions in the country.
