Political scientist Nicolas Jara-Joly warns that the UK Labour Party may sink into lasting decline unless it develops a clear electoral strategy. In an interview with Le Monde, he analyzes the party's disastrous results in the May 7 local elections.
The main cause, Jara-Joly says, is growing competition from the Green Party. Labour is losing voters who want stronger action on climate change and social justice. Without a plan to win back these supporters, the party risks becoming permanently weaker.
The local elections showed a sharp drop in Labour’s vote share. Many traditional Labour voters switched to the Greens. Jara-Joly argues that Labour cannot afford to ignore this trend.
“The party needs a strategy, not just hope,” he states. If Labour fails to adapt, its decline could become irreversible.
