The vulnerability of submarine cables during conflicts has made seabed infrastructure a new concern for global communication and maritime safety. In response, 17 Asian and European nations have increased their defence cooperation in recent months.
However, the two largest marine powers, China and the United States, were not among those countries.
From the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline to the development of new technology such as China’s deep-sea cable cutter, the seabed has become a strategic frontier. RETN’s CEO warned that cutting deep-sea cables can be used as a weapon of deterrence.
