An Istanbul court has acquitted transgender activist Iris Mozalar in a case linked to the annual Feminist Night March. Mozalar, a prominent LGBTİ+ rights advocate, faced charges following her participation in the 2023 event.
In a statement after the ruling, Mozalar said the verdict is significant. She explained it shows that transgender women must continue to defend their voice, dignity, and existence not only against state oppression but also through difficult struggles within activist spaces themselves.
The Feminist Night March, held each year in Istanbul, calls for an end to violence against women. Authorities have frequently targeted participants with legal cases. Mozalar’s acquittal is seen as a rare legal victory for activists in Turkey.
