A nimble, four-legged robot captivated attendees at the International Robot Exhibition (IREX) in Tokyo this week. The pale-grey machine, nearly one metre tall, demonstrated its agility by navigating steps and lifting a leg in a gesture resembling a wave.
This robot, named the D5, is the newest model from Chinese company Pudu Robotics. The firm unveiled it on Wednesday at IREX, a major industry event held from December 3 to 6.
The D5 represents Pudu's second-generation quadruped robot. It moved smoothly through a crowded exhibition hall on wheels, using sensors to automatically avoid obstacles.
Pudu's showcase is part of a strategic push to expand its presence in overseas markets. The company is best known for its wheeled delivery and service robots commonly seen in restaurants and hotels.
