Four people were arrested on Wednesday after throwing a food substance at the protective glass surrounding the British Crown Jewels. The incident occurred inside the Jewel House at the Tower of London, a historic fortress and major tourist attraction.
London's Metropolitan Police stated the individuals targeted the display with what was described as "a food-based product." Early reports from witnesses identified the substance as apple crumble and custard. The priceless historic regalia, which includes crowns and scepters used in coronations, was not damaged.
The police removed the protesters from the scene and took them into custody. Authorities are investigating the motive for the act. The Tower of London confirmed the Jewel House was temporarily closed but has since reopened to visitors.
