Nigeria’s anti-graft agency says governorship hopefuls spent 30 billion naira on primary elections ahead of the 2027 vote. The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made the announcement on Tuesday. He said the figure highlights the high cost of political ambition.
The EFCC boss added that the commission plans to deploy drones and other technology to monitor the 2027 general elections. The goal is to reduce fraud and track campaign spending. “We will use every tool available to ensure transparency,” he stated.
The revelation comes as Nigeria prepares for its next electoral cycle. Analysts say the spending shows how money influences politics in Africa’s most populous nation. The EFCC has not yet named the candidates involved.
