The head of Nigeria's anti-corruption agency has called for a credible electoral process in the 2027 general elections. Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said the agency is committed to stopping the monetisation of the electoral process.
Vote buying, vote selling, and other forms of financial influence undermine democracy and good governance, Olukoyede stated. The EFCC boss emphasized that these practices threaten the integrity of elections and must be eliminated.
The commission will focus on ensuring that money does not determine election outcomes. Olukoyede made the remarks during a recent engagement, stressing the need for free and fair polls in 2027.
