International Coalition Warns of 'Regional Collapse' Over UNRWA Threat
An international coalition called "Shared Commitments" has issued a stark warning: dismantling the UN agency that aids Palestinian refugees could destabilize the entire region. The group, which includes several Western and Arab nations, is pushing for the protection of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) amid what it describes as an "unprecedented campaign" by Israel against the organization. UNRWA provides education, healthcare, and food aid to nearly 6 million registered Palestinian refugees across the Middle East. The coalition argues that stripping the agency of its funding or operations would not only harm these vulnerable populations but also threaten regional security. "This is not just about aid," the coalition stated. "It is about preventing a humanitarian collapse that would fuel extremism and instability." The warning comes as Israel has intensified its calls to shut down UNRWA, accusing the agency of ties to militant groups. The "Shared Commitments" group, however, insists that the agency is the only way to maintain basic services for refugees and keep the region from spiraling into chaos.
