The weekend exchange of strikes between Iran and Israel has increased pressure on US President Donald Trump. He faces growing domestic and international calls to end the war he launched with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu more than three months ago. Netanyahu wants to continue the war until Iran is weakened.
Some analysts warn that Iran may prolong the crisis. This strategy, they say, aims to humiliate the United States, similar to the 1979 hostage crisis. In that event, Iran held 52 American diplomats for 444 days, damaging US prestige.
The current conflict has no clear end in sight. Both sides show little willingness to de-escalate. The coming weeks will test whether Trump can deliver on his promise to end the war.
