Michael Annett, a former NASCAR driver who won the 2019 season-opening race in the Xfinity Series, has died. He was 39 years old.
Annett secured his first and only victory in NASCAR’s second-tier series at the famed Daytona International Speedway. The 2019 Daytona race marked a career highlight for the Iowa native.
He competed full-time in the Xfinity Series from 2012 through 2021, earning 61 top-ten finishes. Annett also made 47 starts in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series between 2009 and 2017.
No cause of death was immediately released. The racing community is mourning his loss.
