Syria has pledged to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) for its citizens by 2030. The commitment came during the High-Level Universal Health Coverage Summit 2025 in Tokyo.
The Syrian delegation was led by Health Minister Musab al-Ali and Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh. They presented the country's roadmap to meet the global UHC goal.
In his address, Minister al-Ali detailed the severe challenges facing Syria's health system. These difficulties have accumulated over years of conflict and economic pressure.
Universal health coverage means all people can access essential health services without financial hardship. The Syrian plan now forms part of a wider international effort to meet this target by the end of the decade.
