The International Criminal Court (ICC) has chosen not to escalate a dispute with the United States during its annual meeting. The court's member states declined to formally challenge Washington's opposition to a potential arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The 125 member states gathered in The Hague for their Assembly of States Parties. The U.S. has threatened ICC officials with broad sanctions if the Court proceeds with seeking Netanyahu's arrest.
By avoiding a direct confrontation, the assembly sidestepped a major diplomatic clash. The decision maintains a focus on the ICC's ongoing work while navigating significant international pressure.
The ICC prosecutor is seeking warrants against Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged crimes during the Gaza war. The Court's pre-trial judges are still reviewing the prosecutor's application.
