Most US deportees to DRC already left, Kinshasa says
KINSHASA, DR Congo – More than half of the 15 South American migrants deported to the Democratic Republic of Congo by the United States in April have already left the country, the DRC government said Friday. The announcement from Kinshasa indicates that the deportees, who were sent to DR Congo from the US, have since returned to their home countries or moved elsewhere. The statement did not specify which nations they traveled to or why they left. The US deportation of South American migrants to a Central African nation raised eyebrows in April, as DR Congo is not a typical destination for such transfers. Kinshasa’s latest update suggests the arrangement was temporary for most of the group.
