Four civilians died in an overnight exchange of fire at a major border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan. An Afghan official reported the deaths on Saturday.
Both countries blamed each other for starting the clash. This happened despite a ceasefire agreement made after deadly border fights in October.
Tensions have risen sharply since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021. Pakistan accuses Afghanistan's Taliban government of sheltering militant fighters. The border has remained mostly closed as a result.
