A man accused of placing pipe bombs in Washington, D.C., a day before the January 6, 2021, Capitol breach made his first court appearance on Friday. Brian Cole Jr. was arrested on Thursday.
According to law enforcement sources, Cole told authorities he planted the two devices. The bombs were found near the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican national committees.
No one was injured by the bombs, which did not explode. The case had remained unsolved for over three years, becoming one of the most prominent investigations from that period.
Cole now faces federal charges. His initial court hearing began the formal legal process against him.
