Liberia's House of Representatives has summoned the heads of the national fire and police services to explain a deadly house fire. The move follows public anger over the November 14 blaze, which killed five family members.
The fire claimed the lives of Shara Community Chairlady Deiode Davies Garnett, her daughter, and three grandchildren. The tragedy has sparked national outrage and increased public suspicion about the emergency response.
On Thursday, lawmakers voted to launch a formal inquiry. They ordered the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) and the Liberia National Police (LNP) to appear before the full House on December 9.
Officials must explain the circumstances surrounding the fire. The legislative hearing aims to address growing public demands for accountability and transparency.
