The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Nigeria's Cross River State has removed its local chairman, Alphonsus Eba. Party officials swore in a new chairman, Pius Ewoma, immediately after the vote on Monday.
Eba dismissed his impeachment as "a joke," claiming the process was illegal. He stated he remains the legitimate chairman.
The APC's state executive committee cited allegations of financial misconduct and authoritarian leadership. They conducted the vote during a meeting in Calabar, the state capital.
Internal party disputes like this are common in Nigerian politics. They often reflect struggles for control ahead of elections. The national APC leadership has not yet commented on the local faction's decision.
