Indonesia Floods: Death Toll Climbs to 883, Hundreds Remain Missing
Indonesian authorities have confirmed a sharp rise in deaths from catastrophic flooding and landslides on the island of Sumatra. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported on Saturday that at least 883 people have died. More than 500 individuals are still missing. The disaster has affected three provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Days of intense rainfall caused rivers to overflow. The resulting floods and landslides severely damaged roads and bridges, hampering rescue efforts. The BNPB stated that 520 people have been seriously injured. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors in the most impacted areas.
