ICE Agents Temporarily Trapped by Protesters During Tucson Operation

Protesters surrounded a federal vehicle in Tucson, Arizona, on Tuesday, temporarily trapping immigration agents inside a taco shop parking lot. The agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, were conducting an operation in the area. Demonstrators blocked the vehicle and chanted outside the restaurant, Taco Giro. The standoff lasted for approximately 90 minutes before local police intervened. The Tucson Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the scene. Officers used flash bang devices, which produce a bright light and loud noise to disorient people, to disperse the crowd. Police made multiple arrests. Authorities have not yet released the number of individuals detained or what charges they may face. ICE has not commented on the nature of the operation that prompted the protest.
