Video Shows Survivors Waving Before Fatal Second Attack in Mediterranean, Sources Say

New video evidence reveals a harrowing sequence of events from a deadly migrant boat incident in the Mediterranean Sea. Legislative sources who viewed the footage say it shows survivors of an initial attack waving for help before their vessel suffered a second, fatal strike. The incident occurred on September 2. The video, now under review by U.S. lawmakers, captures the moments between the two attacks. People on the damaged boat can be seen signaling overhead, apparently to alert nearby vessels. The boat ultimately sank following the second impact. The exact circumstances and responsible parties remain under official investigation. CBS News national security contributor Sam Vinograd provided analysis of the footage, underscoring its significance for ongoing inquiries into the tragedy.
