U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a Somali national convicted of federal benefits fraud. The individual had previously appeared in documented meetings with prominent Minnesota Democratic politicians.
Photographs show the man alongside officials including Governor Tim Walz, who was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2024. Other local Democratic figures are also pictured.
The individual was convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and theft of public funds in 2021. ICE confirmed the recent arrest is for immigration violations following the criminal conviction.
There is no indication the politicians were aware of any criminal activity during their documented contacts. The case highlights ICE's enforcement actions against non-citizens with criminal convictions.
