A group of members of the European Parliament has urgently called on the EU's top diplomat to change the bloc's stance on the war in Gaza. In a direct letter, they accuse Europe of being "complicit" in the ongoing conflict.
The letter is addressed to Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs. The MEPs state that after "58 years of illegal occupation and 789 days of genocide," current EU policies must end.
They argue that the European Union's support for Israel, through political backing and continued trade, makes it a partner in the violence. The lawmakers did not specify the number of signatories or their political parties.
The appeal increases pressure on Kallas to formally review the EU's diplomatic position. It reflects deepening divisions within European institutions regarding the war and the bloc's relationship with Israel.
