The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $100 million sale of armored vehicles to Lebanon. The deal aims to bolster the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) as the country faces ongoing security and economic instability.
According to the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the sale includes 26 M1152A1 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles. These are armored, medium tactical trucks. The package also contains weapons, communications gear, training, and support.
U.S. officials stated the proposed sale will help Lebanon meet current and future threats by improving its military mobility and capability. They emphasized that strengthening the LAF is crucial for Lebanon’s internal security and border protection.
Congress must now review the deal. The U.S. considers the Lebanese military a key partner in regional stability. This potential sale follows ongoing U.S. security assistance to Lebanon.
