Taiwan Blocks Mainland Social Media App RedNote Over Fraud Concerns
Taiwan has blocked access to the popular mainland Chinese social media platform RedNote. Authorities cited a high risk of fraud and information security threats as the reason for the ban. The island’s Criminal Investigation Bureau announced the restriction on Thursday. Officials issued an internet shutdown order that will block RedNote for one year. The app, also known as Xiaohongshu or "Little Red Book," is a lifestyle platform similar to Instagram. It is especially popular with young users globally and had gained a significant following in Taiwan. Taiwan’s Interior Ministry stated the decision aims to protect citizens from online scams and safeguard personal data. The ministry classified RedNote as posing an "unacceptable high fraud risk."
