Red Cross Launches $6.2 Million Appeal as Cyclone Hits Sri Lanka

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has issued an emergency appeal for $6.2 million. This funding will support relief efforts in Sri Lanka, where Cyclone Ditwah has affected approximately 1.5 million people. The storm caused severe flooding and landslides across the country. Many communities now face damaged homes, contaminated water, and lost livelihoods. The Red Cross warns the humanitarian crisis is worsening. Immediate needs include clean water, shelter, and medical supplies to prevent disease outbreaks. The emergency funds will allow the IFRC and the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society to scale up their operations. Their goal is to reach 200,000 of the most vulnerable people with critical aid.
