Berlin's Pergamon Museum Offers Preview Ahead of 2027 Reopening

Berlin’s Pergamon Museum, home to some of the world’s most famous ancient monuments, is preparing for a major comeback. Its centerpiece, the monumental Pergamon Altar, has been closed to visitors since 2014 for a large-scale restoration. Now, the museum is offering the public a special preview. A new exhibition titled “The Pergamon Museum. The Masterplan” opens this week. It explains the complex renovation process and displays original pieces from the altar. The entire restoration project is one of Europe’s largest cultural heritage endeavors. The first wing of the fully restored museum is scheduled to reopen in 2027. Until then, this exhibition provides a unique look at the ongoing work. It allows visitors to understand the engineering challenges and careful craftsmanship required to preserve these historic structures for future generations.
