Bill Proposes Capitol Honor for Fallen Service Members

U.S. Representative Brian Mast, a military veteran, has introduced new legislation called the Final Honors Act. The bill would allow individual service members killed in action to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. This high honor is traditionally reserved for presidents, distinguished lawmakers, and military leaders. The legislation aims to extend the recognition to individual fallen heroes from all ranks. Representative Mast named Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders as the first service member he hopes to honor under the act. Specialist Sanders was killed in a drone attack in Jordan earlier this year. The Final Honors Act has been referred to a House committee for review. If passed, it would establish a new precedent for honoring America's war dead at the nation's Capitol.
