An Indonesian domestic worker died in a Hong Kong apartment fire last month while physically shielding her elderly employer, her husband has confirmed.
Sri Wahyuni, 42, perished in the November 26 blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. The fire killed at least 159 people.
Her husband, Sugeng Widodo, said he last spoke to his wife just hours before the fire. He stated that something "did not feel right" during their final conversation.
Authorities later discovered Wahyuni’s body in a fourth-floor flat. According to Widodo, she was found embracing her 93-year-old ward in a protective gesture.
The tragic discovery has led her family and community to honor her final act as one of selfless duty.
