Australia has deployed a military aircraft to monitor a Chinese naval fleet sailing in the Philippine Sea. The move follows the detection of the fleet, which includes a powerful Type 075 amphibious assault ship, earlier this week.
The Australian Defence Force sent a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft to observe the flotilla. U.S. satellite imagery first reported by Australian media confirmed the ships' presence.
This response revives significant security concerns in Canberra. Just nine months ago, a Chinese naval fleet completed an unprecedented circumnavigation of the Australian continent.
The Type 075 is a key vessel for amphibious operations, capable of carrying helicopters, landing craft, and hundreds of troops. Its movement in regional waters is closely watched by neighboring countries.
