Netflix is now the leading candidate to secure a major content licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, according to industry reports. The streaming service has reportedly outbid competitors Comcast and Paramount Skydance in the final stages of negotiations.
The deal would grant Netflix temporary streaming rights to a significant portion of Warner Bros.'s film and television library. Such agreements, often called licensing deals, allow one company to distribute another company's content for a set period.
A finalized agreement would mark a strategic shift for Warner Bros. Discovery, which has recently prioritized its own streaming platform, Max. Licensing valuable content to Netflix provides a substantial new revenue stream while introducing its titles to a broader global audience.
For Netflix, adding Warner Bros.'s popular franchises and classic titles would immediately bolster its content catalog. This move helps Netflix compete in an increasingly crowded market where subscriber growth has slowed. Neither company has publicly commented on the ongoing negotiations.
