The leaders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) signed a major peace agreement in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. U.S. President Donald Trump witnessed the signing ceremony between Presidents Paul Kagame and Felix Tshisekedi.
The deal, called the Washington Accords, aims to end years of regional tension. It follows more than eight months of negotiations organized by the United States.
Both nations have historically accused each other of supporting rebel groups. This new framework commits them to improved diplomatic relations and cooperation on security.
