Top US, Egyptian Military Leaders Discuss Gaza Ceasefire and Cooperation

The top US military commander for the Middle East met with Egypt’s army chief on Monday to discuss efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. The talks also focused on broader military cooperation between the two nations. General Michael "Erik" Kurilla, head of US Central Command (CENTCOM), held discussions with Egyptian Lieutenant General Osama Askar. Their meeting addressed the urgent push to halt the Israel-Hamas conflict and secure the release of hostages. A CENTCOM statement confirmed the leaders reviewed their strong military partnership. They pledged to continue close coordination on shared security challenges. Egypt has been a key mediator in ceasefire negotiations. The country shares a border with Gaza and has worked alongside US and Qatari officials to broker a deal between Israel and Hamas.
