Drone Strike on Sudanese Kindergarten Kills Nine, Including Four Children
A drone attack struck a kindergarten and other civilian sites in southern Sudan on Thursday, killing nine people. The Sudanese medical charity Emergency Response Room confirmed that four of the victims were children. The attack occurred in the Abu Zabad locality of South Kordofan state. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) used what witnesses described as "suicide drones" in the assault. These so-called suicide drones, also known as loitering munitions, are explosive devices that can hover over a target area before crashing into it. The RSF has not yet commented on the incident. The strike damaged several civilian facilities alongside the kindergarten. Intense fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army has persisted in the region for months, escalating a wider national conflict that began in April 2023.
